BuddhaHand - Mysterious Piece

This is a mysterious piece.
Let see if you have the 3rd eye to see "IT".
Focus on the stone and see if you can spot "IT". (You should!)

If you still have difficulty, I suggest you download this image.
Then use your photo viewer program to zoom and pan to see "IT".

Let me know what you see.
Have fun. Ha...ha......

BuddhaHand - Taiwan Island

I found this stone quite resemble the "Taiwan Island".
Took me like 4 months to make this piece.
Lucky it has turned into a very nice piece.
This is one of my favourite piece.

What do you think?

Ah Boy And Kuan Yin Statue

I would like to share with you this very interesting story I was told back in July 2009.

One afternoon I went hiking up Bukit Jambul near my apartment. At the hill top a Chinese lady approached me and said, "aren't you the guy in the Kwong Wah paper on the BuddhaHand?". I said,"yes". She graped my hand and took me to the bench. She told me she had a story for me.

This is how the story goes.......

One late afternoon, Ah Boy mother was very anxiously waiting for her son to come back for dinner. She was waiting at the front door to look out for Ah Boy. When Ah Boy was sighted at the gate, she scream at the top of her voice.

Aiyooo....Ah Boy where did you go? She was shouting this and that as she was angry with the son for being irresponsible. You see Ah Boy came back from the foot field with dirt and sweat all over his shirt. His mother was furious as he was out whole day after school. He didn't come back early to study and did his homework.

Then Ah Boy opened his mouth and said, "I am HUNGRY".
That made his mother even more angry.

Now, the mother wanted to teach and punish the son.
She came up with an idea.

She ordered the son to kneel down in front of the Kuan Yin's altar and told the son, "when OK I would call you for dinner or IF not no dinner for you".

The mother went to the kitchen to do her cooking and left the poor son kneeling in front of the Kuan Yin statue.

When she finished cooking, she came out and saw the son sitting very comfortably at the dinner table waiting for his dinner to be served.

"Ah Boy who asked you to get UP?", screamed the mother at her top of her voice.

Ah Boy very calmly told the mother that the Kuan Yin did!

Mother, mother when you asked me to kneel in front the Kuan Yin, I looked at the Kuan Ying and she looked at me.

Ah Boy said, "I looked at her righthand gesture, I noticed she "hand signal" OK to me to get up. So I got up like you said ma!"

The End.

What this lady was trying to tell me was Ah Boy can "see" what we adult misses out.
I could not blame her as I too only saw the hand gesture at 49 years of age.
I bet, she must be very happy to relate the story to me.
I mean what is the chances for me to bounce onto her if not for the story in the press.
Coincidence?

BuddhaHand - How is made?

Finally, today I made it to the press interview with Lee Annie from New Life Post in KL. Below are all my 38 pieces proudly displayed at my brother house at Kepong.

And the obvious question by Annie is how the BuddhaHand Stone is made.

It seems I can't get away from this question.
Here is the "1/2 answer" to the question!

I will be honest how I came to make the BuddhaHand stone.
In 2008, I tried to make 3D effect on the stone with rubber paint and I encountered many problems. Rubber paint is too soft and it won't allow you to build multiply layers. Rubber paint simply cannot stick together to create the embrossing effect.

On the eve of Chinese New Year 2008, I remember having a very strange dream.
In the dream I saw a "movie scrip" that show me how to 3D effect step by step.
Maybe my sub-conscious mind was activated to come out with a solution to my problem.
During the new year, I went through the process and later did 3 pieces to convince that the technique worked.

The BuddhaHand project was a greater challenge as I could achieve more multiply layers effect.

Like they said, the rest is history.

Practice, more experiments and hard work make it perfect.
The below pictures give you some ideas how is made.

There is a lot of craving with dentist tools, lot of sanding and masking on the paint work. Each stone can take 4 weeks to a few months to make it.

I get the stone from fish or garden shops in Penang. Normally, I look for unique shaped stone to produce my BuddhaHand. The stone is given a good clean and soak over night in salt water to cleanse it.

Ok. That is the furthest I can take you on the details how I made the BuddhaHand.
I guess you can call this a trade secret.

Exhibition: Looking 4 Venue!

The Objectives of The BuddhaHand Project.
Once a while I would like to take my collection for an exhibition to achieve the following objectives:

- To educate the public on the meaning of the Mudra.
- To educate the public to appreciate the divine statue and its meaning.
- To let the public feel the “hand” and be touched by it.

I am looking for an appropriate venue in Malaysia, Singapore and overseas to exhibit my collection.
If your organisation or if you know any organisation that is interested, please feel to get in touch with me.
The exhibition is subject to terms and conditions.

Thank you.
